I like your photo comparisons this morning, Peter. I remember seeing movie clips during World War II of Hilter in Paris standing there. I also remember people from Paris, crying, when the German troops marched down the main street in Paris. And I saw the liberation of Paris and the partisans killing some of the fleeing German soldiers. And then the people of Paris also shaved the heads of women who consorted with Germans. It was a wild time to be living in those days and I was fortunate to be living in my country, relatively safe from Germany and Japan.
I did, however, end up going to Japan as a soldier during the Occupation of Japan. I found the Japanese people to be among the cleanest on Earth and very polite and courteous to each other and to those of us who were soldiers. I took many photos of that time and they are all in a museum in Japan.
Yes, to answer your comment on my blog, the comments on the comments are often more interesting to read than the narrative made by the blog owner. At least I find it to be true.

Heureusement que ces horibles personnages n'existent plus. Moi je me suis retrouvée à côté de Gagarine au sommet de la tour Eiffel, malheureusement à cette époque il n'y avait pas de numérique et je n'avais pas d'appareil photos car j'étais venue en voisine et la tour je la connaissais.
Peter, You have a very intersting blog with exquisite photography & all. I love the mentions of Artists like Degas [ impressionistc art is my all time favourite & Van Gogh my favourite artist] & also Picasso's Guernica is such a beautiful work of art! It is a poignant poetry on canvas.
Your pictures of growing tree are great.
It is so sad that such a beautiful little girl has been kidnapped. I pray to almighty that she would be reunited with her family soon.

Heureusement que les Allemands et SURTOUT les Américains ne l'ont pas détruite à la fin de la deuxième World War. (Je pense à Berlin et surtout à Dresde)
