Tour de France

Today starts the Tour de France, considered as one of the world’s biggest sport events, followed by millions along the roads and of course on television.

Something very special this year is that the prologue, a short 8 km (5 miles) race, will take place in London, starting at Whitehall, passing Downing Street, the Parliament buildings, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park… and ending up at the The Mall!

On Sunday follows the real first stage, which will bring the riders from London to Canterbury! Then it’s time to cross the Channel and via Belgium reach France.

After totally 20 stages and 3550 km (2200 miles) the finish will as usual take place on the Champs Elysées, July 29th.

Hopefully no drug or doping stories this year, during or after the race!

Doping? Drugs? Never! Surely you jest!

I guess it's clear I'm a bit of a cynic about this.

There was a time when they got doped by drinking wine.

Oh, I didn't know that it starts in the UK. But anyway, I was never interested in that spectacle and now, after all that doping, it has lost its attraction completely for me.

I think I have watched this event since it first appeared on television. I don't know why but I did. I like to ride a bike but these guys are super human beings who can ride for days over all sorts of mountains and valleys.

Thank you for visiting

I just took a break from watching the Tour to answer some e-mails and visit some blogs & here's the Tour again! As a homesick Brit living in the US I'm loving the fact that I get to see lots of London for the prologue, but as a Francophile at heart I love watching the French countryside racing by.
