Other statues - Luxembourg Gardens
We don’t all have the same taste – fortunately! Some of you did not really like the sculptures I showed yesterday. I prefer to keep everybody happy, so here are a few other ones!
When you start to really walk around the Luxembourg Gardens, you will discover hundreds of sculptures. Here are a few examples. If you want more, I can go back!
Pigeons always seem to like to sit on the top of statues. What seems more surprising is that here you can also find seagulls in the same position. I believe this is the only park in Paris where you can regularly find seagulls. Why are they here?

One of these statues is the Statue of Liberty. I already had this statue in one of my posts. This one is not a copy; it’s rather one of the originals, preceding the making of the “real one” and about 15 years older. It was given to the city of Paris by its creator, Bartholdi.
I put only a small selection of these pictures on my photo blog – there were too many of them. If you feel that I made a bad choice, please tell me and I will add one or two more!

This park is replete with statuary and all of it looks wonderful to me. Well, maybe some of those with the pigeons and seagulls could use a little clean up.

So many beautiful sculptures! Is that statue of liberty as big as the one here in the US?
Nevermind. I found the answer. If anyone else is curious, the US Statue of Liberty is 151 feet, 1 inch (not including the base) and the one in the Luxembourg Gardens is 9 feet.
I just had a quick look around this post, but the Statue of Liberty reference and the photo with the pigeon caught my eye. I always thought the Statue of Liberty in New York looks as though she is handing out ice cream cones to new arrivals. And here it looks as though she has had an aberration and dumped it on her head!

I believe they are cleaned up now and then, but some statues seem to be very popular among the birds. Not an easy job!

par contre quelle galerie et je crois que touts m'intéressent. Je veiens à Paris en juillet et je n'aurais qu'à me brancher sur ton site pour trouver de quoi flâner à paris

This statue is a variation of the famous La Bocca de la Verità in Rome (The Mouth of Truth). If you tell a lie with your hand in the mouth, it will be bitten off.

Oui, la qualité n'est pas bonne. Ces photos sont prises dans l'après-midi et il faisait sombre (et nuageux)! J'ai hesité avant de les montrer. Mais, je n'ai pas les mêmes exigeances que toi sur la qualité!

la statue avec la mouette c'est grandiose. si je me rappelle bien à cote de la statue de la liberté, tu un arbre de la liberté qui a été planté en hommage au 11 septembre.

Pigeons and seagulls are very dangerous for monuments.
Here, in madrid you can find seagulls too, it´s really amazing, seagulls are so far away to the sea!!
Ah oui, moi aussi j'ai pensé à la Bocca de la Verita et à ce délicieux film "Vacances romaines" avec Audrey Hepburn.
c'est super kitsch ! Franchement celles d'hier m'ont plus interpelé que celles ci mais bon... je connaissais de vue si je puis dire les sculptures de Zadkine et je te remercie de me les avoir fait mieux connaître. j'aime beaucoup leur côté inquiétant voire torturé.Même si finalement, ces statues plus classiques semblent parfois exprimer des sentiments similaires...

I believe seagulls may today be more interested in garbage than fresh fish! However what surprises me that you hardly find them elsewhere in Paris, only here!

Donc un peu de Zadkine, un peu de "kitsch"! Il faut satisfaire tout le monde! Certaines de ces statues "kitsch" sont très belles aussi, à mon avis.

What about vandalism in Paris, Peter? Is artwork being randomly attacked there like here in Stockholm?
Bonsoir peter! avant que j'éternue encore une nouvelle fois, je me hâte d'écrire ce petit commentaire. Tout d'abord, je crois que la dame HPY devrait arrêter les apéros tôt le matin... :-) Bientôt elle verra des nains de jardin partout. Je préférais les statues de hier mais comme vous le dites, chacun ses goûts et ses couleurs. Je crois que Bartholdi est né à Colmar et juste à l'entrée de la ville, il y a une copie de la statue de la Liberté. Je vous souhaite une bonne soirée. Aaaaaaaaaaaatchouuuuummmmmmmm (tiens je crois que c'est le nom d'un des sept nains, hihihi)
Peter, j'aurai cru que tu préférais Audrey Hepburn, mais c'est vrai, Grégory Peck, quel bel homme!! Ce superbe film qui me fait encore rêver, avec le scooter, comme le mien, Rome ville que j'adore et cette histoire "fleur bleue", même à mon âge, mon coeur l'est parfois encore.

Haven't seen to much of it on the "older", more solid, types of statues. The problem is rather with some modern art, which also often include some technical functionalities that don't resist against time and "curious" people.

This is interesting. I love the sculptures both old and new! The amazing fact is that there are paces so replete with them!!
