Two friends?

The two friends (?) officially appeared - for the first time after the election - together this morning. The occasion was the celebration of the abolition of slavery. Sarko is just back from a rather critisized three days trip to Malta, with family and friends, using a private jet and cruising on a 60 m yacht.

Yes, I suppose he should have gone there in a rowing boat! And even then somebody would have said something about it.

I was shocked by this yacht and the jet Sarkozy took to get there.

Upon his return Sarko explained that this holiday had cost nothing to the tax-payer because he was a guest of his good friend Gaston Bolloré who owns both the yacht and the jet;

but how can you think that when you accept such luxurious gifts from such powerful friends, you aren't expected to reciprocate somehow or other, for example in the form of favourable laws being passed ?
This is a disgrace; and it's only the beginning.

BTW, Peter, you get a mention in Sydney Daily Snap today.
Cheers

Many of us were schocked by this way of starting a new presidency, in strong contrast with some nice speaches before and just after the election. It looks quite provocative, but the previous presidents had similar habits (if that is an excuse).

However, let's see what comes, the composition of the new government etc...

(Anyhow, I'm a non-voting "neutral" Swede.)

Sincere thanks for referring to my blog on yours today. I feel honored!

Me & my kids went for a drive to Delimara on Monday and we got to see the yacht there, but little did I know who was on it until yesterday when I read a local paper.

Hpy - I was thinking more of a fishing boat - that way he could feed himself as well. Oh, wait, then he would be criticized for overfishing in protected areas ;-)

I really don't understand the attitude of the French - is Sarko now supposed to drop all his moneyed friends and only keep the impoverished ones?

(PS Peter, I answered your question on my blog ;-)

Sending the wrong signal I suppose and definitely didn't get on well over here too :(

There's an interesting analysis of Tony Blair and his attraction to right wing money etc., in yesterday's BBC web site.
