Another Lavirotte building

I have several times talked about “art nouveau” (Guimard and others). A couple of months ago, I made a post on « Ceramic buildings », presenting among others two buildings by one of the foremost “art nouveau” architects, Jules Lavirotte (1864-1928) (Example from Avenue Rapp on the left).

Very close to the large and nice Parc Monceau and its spectacular gates, on Avenue Messine (8th arrdt.), we can find another example of a Lavirotte building.

This one which has been recently renovated is some six years younger than the ones I showed last time and is not so “extreme” in its design (1907); the “art nouveau” had possibly already passed its fashion peak. There is not any coloured ceramic anymore but you can still find some rather extravagant glazed earthenware and some typical ironworks on the balconies.
The “signatures” of the architect and the sculptor responsible for the decorations are very typical for “art nouveau”,

... so is the mosaic street address.

You can find some of the pictures on my photo blog.

Extra news

Although I’m a happy metro user and walk a lot, I decided to invest in an additional means of locomotion. This is a modern version of the Solex, very popular in France in the 50’s and 60’s. Today’s version is electrically powered and is designed by Pininfarina.

I can imagine you now, zipping around the streets if Paris, taking photos as you speed by, one hand held out and one on the handlebars. Right?

Take care. bises

claude said...

Deslilas said...

Une chanson de Mick Michel interprétée par Yves Montand.
Un gamin d'Paris
C'est tout un poème
Dans aucun pays
Il n'y a le même
Car c'est un Titi
Petit gars dégourdi
Que l'on aime

Un gamin d'Paris
C'est le doux mélange
D'un ciel affranchi
Du diable et d'un ange
Et son œil hardi
S'attendrit devant une oran-an-ge
Pas plus haut que trois pommes
Il lance un défi
A l'aimable bonhomme

Rempli d'insouciance
Gouailleur et ravi
De la vie qui chante
S'il faut, peut aussi
Comme Gavroch' entrer dans la danse

Un gamin d'Paris
M'a dit à l'oreille

(On tient à toi.)

J'aime bien.

Olivier said...

Mélisse said...

Zingalingaling - Ratatatam

And now we can get even more pictures
from Paris, when you use this modern "Solex".
What the amazing decorations again in your photos!

Maxime said...

ruth said...

All that art nouveau is scrumptious. And yes, I can totally picture you zipping around Paris with your camera.

Jessica said...

I know you're not an architect, but do you know how these ceramic buildings are created? Is the facade made somewhere and then affixed to the building? Or is it done directly onto the main building material (concrete, etc.). I wonder if you ever could have seen someone putting up the decorations you show.

I'm sorry I have no clear answer to your question and today's buildings don't have these decorations. I believe, but don't know, that they are made separately, but must be fit in during the construction.

Hello everyone!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a nicey, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of financial piramyde, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For several years , I earn money with the help of these programs.
I don't have problems with money now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I get now up to 2G a day , and I started with funny 500 bucks.
Right now, I'm very close at catching at last a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Turn to my blog to get additional info.
