Mid-month-theme: subway day

The 15th of each month is the day for the « mid-month-theme » - subway – which I share with bloggers in NYC and Stockholm. This month’s theme is “above ground”.

Most of the Paris metro lines are crossing the Seine under water, but some of the first lines (the one you see here is from 1905) were built with bridge crossings - easier and at the time considered as less risky than to make under-water-tunnels.

In September last year I showed a metro train on the Pont de Bir-Haikem. The above photo was taken last week, showing a train on the same bridge, in the opposite direction, towards the Passy area (16th arrdt.). I repeat that this bridge has the particularity of being built for trains, cars, bikes, pedestrians… and, in my opinion, the bridge is really beautiful.

You can find today’s posts – and some other subway related posts – by using the following links:

New York City Daily PhotoStockholm by pixelsPHO (Paris).

I wish you a very nice and relaxing weekend!

Happy subway day, Peter!

It's sort of a contradiction to have a subway above ground but when travelling I really prefer being able to see something. And especially when I'm using the subway being a tourist in some city.

I love when the metro comes above ground, especially in pretty areas. It makes the ride more enjoyable. Lovely photos, Peter.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Such bridges look very delicate, chic!

Have a nice weekend, Peter!

I love the 2nd photo mainly because of the beautiful Eiffel Tower in the background and the train looks suspended in mid-air.

But your entry this month is spectacular too.

Bises

Peter, I popped into this website, it tells about Finnish culture happenings in Paris during the spring:

T'as un musée super

A l'université

...was it not Napoleon who founded the school of ponts et chausees? He did a good job, didn't he!

That is such a wonderful visual of train on the bridge with a boat underneath and Eiffel Tower in the background!
Pictursque!

& the other picture with the magnificent buildings is equally beautiful!

Peter, I adore your picture of this bridge, with all the tall buildings in the background.
And Olivier's song is lovely.... I can only understand some of it, but "On peut decouvrir l'amour dans le metro" oh yes, I hope so!!!

BTW my G-Baby is still in hiding... Monday 18th at the latest for the birth!

Indeed! Happy weekend and smiling also to you!

per:
Yes, subway above ground is nice, except for the people living close maybe?

azer:
Yeah, man!

Peter said...

shionge:
Same to you... and take of your fingers and the rest!

jessica:
As I said above, nice for the passengers, but perhaps not so nice for the people living close.

susupetal:
I hope that the bridge is solid! It has been there for more than hundred years, so... (Of course no more under guarantee.)

I'm also quite happy with the second photo, but I thought I must have something which is more or less from "today".

chuckeroon:
I know your special love for Napoleon (:-)), but no; it existed already - Napoleon just reorganised it!

mona:
I hope that you feel more and more the need to visit Paris - one of the reasons for this blog!

ex-shammickite:
Love can be found everywhere - with a bit of luck!
Trust that the event will take place this weekend. I guess you are a bit nervous!

Spectacular! I've said it before: must go to Paris soon!

In Stockholm we have a similar bridge (St Eriksbron), but there the people and cars are on top and the trains are below.

Anonymous said...

Are you still having fun, Peter?

Anonymous said...

It looks to me to have a sort of NY look about it.. must make a visit next time I'm in Paris
