If you are visiting Cour du Commerce Saint André (my post yesterday), I would propose that you also make a small deviation to Cour de Rohan which you easily reach by taking a small alley, some kind of secret passage, just opposite to (the backside of) the Procope restaurant. This opening did not originally exist as here was the Philippe Auguste wall, which I also referred to in yesterday’s post. You can see some old stones on the house illustrated on top. Originally, you had to enter here from the other side – still possible.
By the way, the name should rather refer to Rouen than to Rohan as this is the way to a mansion formerly supposed (but not confirmed) to have been used by the archbishops of Rouen.
Once you have entered, you will meet a rather authentic several hundred years old surrounding. There are no shops or restaurants here, just private homes. The entrance gate may be closed during weekends and evenings. When it’s open, very few people (good for the inhabitants) dare to pass the gate, which leads to three successive and irregularly shaped courtyards. It’s extremely calm, although so close to a very busy area. A wonderful place to live if you accept the idea of not bringing your car to the front of your house!
In one of the courtyards, you can find the only (?) in Paris remaining “pas-de-mule”, or “montoir” (horse-block?), a tool to help you to mount a horse.
Part of the scenes of Vincente Minelli’s film, Gigi, were turned here (Leslie Caron’s home in the film) – now 50 years ago.

I'll have to watch Gigi again to see if I recognize anything. I love that movie!
The building and courtyard are so beautiful. I saw Gigi many years ago but now, I will go watch it again.
Oh, it was ages since watching Gigi, I believe I have it on VCR somewhere. I have a lot of musicals in my drawers, been that kind of strange:)
Pour le plaisir d'habiter là, j'abandonne ma voiture sans aucun regret! De toute façon, le cheval semble bien plus approprié dans un tel décor...
Sais-tu que je t'attends pour la balade d'aujourd'hui entre Arradon et Séné?
Ca me plairait bien d'habiter un endroit comme celui-ci. AU calme, mais près de tout. Quoique, laisser ma voiture ailleurs? (Il ne faut pas avoir de voiture à Paris, mais si on a envie d'aller se promener ailleurs...)

Oh! le film Gigi!! je le connais encore par coeur,il faut dire qu'� cette �poque, j'�tais amoureuse de Louis Jourdan, tu sais quel �ge j'avais, puisque c'est le tien aussi, mais � cet �ge on r�ve au prince charmant.

You found and showed us a calm and quiet place in the middle of the bustling city, Peter. If I lived there I would be happy to carry my groceries and other goods rather than have cars enter the courtyard.
I won't mind staying there,so peaceful and calm.The location is so strategic in bz Paris that makes it so interesting.I love greenery places like that..just perfect for homely type persons.

courtyards are very much a part of our Indian homes too. We have large back yards & front yards that provide a lot of open space and privacy!
It is nice to see some of the France's courtyards!
Bonsoir Peter, moi aussi je t'envoie toute mon amitié et te dis merci pour tout ce que tu nous apportes chaque jour sur ton blog. Tu passes des heures et des heures à parcourir les rues de Paris et tu nous donnes toujours de beaux reportages en retour. Alors pour tout cela je te dis merci. Et aussi pour tout le reste, des gentils mots sur mon blog quand je ne vais pas bien, tes encouragements. J'ai de la chance d'avoir des gens comme toi qui viennent me rendre visite.
Ton reportage d'aujourd'hui nous fait découvrir une facette de Paris que je ne connais pas bien, la tranquillité. On se dit toujours que dans les grandes villes, il est impossible de trouver des endroits calmes, tu nous montres le contraire. Je t'embrasse très très fort et te souhaite une bonne soirée et une excellente nuit.
Quel merveilleux endroit ! On se croirait soudainement transporté dans une autre ville et un autre temps. Serais-tu, comme Alice, passé à travers le miroir ?

So, Peter, I've just spent another happy 10 mins on your last 10 days of work. As you know, those courtyards and alleys are "right up my street"....you're getting on well with the "now not so new" camera.
